EKG Technician

FLSA Employment Status: Non-exempt / Hourly

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Cardiovascular Services, the EKG Technician plays a pivotal role in the diagnostics and treatment of cardiac and vascular conditions. Utilizing a blend of skill and precision, you will operate electrocardiograph (EKG) machines to capture the intricacies of heart activity, thereby enabling physicians to make accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.

Reporting Structure:

Directly reports to the Director of Telemetry or designated authority.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution
  • Work Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year EKG work experience
  • Education and training with EKG clinical rotation experience are required
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Certification in EKG Technology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

Essential Functions:
  1. Produce accurate EKG recordings for diagnostic use
  2. Schedule patient appointments and monitor heart rates
  3. Offer clear explanations of procedures to patients
  4. Utilize electrodes to obtain diagnostic prints
  5. Keep EKG equipment in optimal working condition
  6. Recognize abnormal EKG patterns and escalate as required
  7. Conduct assessments on patients of varying conditions and age groups
  8. Maintain effective relationships with department personnel

Other Duties:

May perform other responsibilities and engage in special projects as needed.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing
  • Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases may occur
  • Must handle emergency and/or crisis situations competently
  • Required to wear protective equipment when necessary
  • Effective performance in stressful and fast-paced situations
  • Must pass all required health and other screenings, including drug tests.
