The Instructional Assistant (IA) provides support services in classrooms, resource settings, general education classrooms, or other school related areas. The IA performs a wide variety of instructional duties including assisting classroom teachers with instructional support, progress monitoring, and supervision of students who have special needs. Additionally, the IA reinforces students' positive behavior and carrying out students' IEP goals.

Chain of Command
The Instructional Assistant works under supervision of a certified teacher and reports to the Principal of the school.

• Working under pressure to meet timelines and handling multiple and changing priorities

Essential Duties of the CCB Instructional Assistant

• Assists teachers in preparing and modifying lesson plans and materials, instructional lessons, and testing materials for targeted special education students consistent with IEPs
• Provides instruction for at risk students in areas such as reading, math, computers, writing, and basic living skills
• If working with the middle school ISI program, coordinates and monitors academic assignments, coordinates and provides character education
• Monitors and manages behavioral plans and expectations and enters discipline data into the District discipline electronic system
• Collaborates with school administrative teams, teachers, and district personnel to support delivery of instructional services and supports for identified students
• Assists students with behavior supports and interventions
• Instructs small groups of students using adopted intervention programs
• Maintains records on attendance, small group instruction, and assessment results
• Communicates student progress to teachers
• Communicates effectively with classroom teachers and other staff members
• Maintains confidentiality
• Supports teachers with implementation of student behavior plans
• Facilitates communication between students
• Utilizes proactive behavior supports & assistance to assist students with maintaining a safe and orderly environment
• Provides support to students in various settings, which may include, special areas, lunch, playground, etc.
• Problem solving, behavior monitoring, and record keeping including related systems
• Preparing group activities and modifying instructional lessons for special education students
• Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, codes, and policies
• Use of a variety of office equipment and computer-based technologies
• Establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; demonstrating tact, diplomacy and patience.
• May involve successful completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Prevention training

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold a High School Diploma (or GED) and an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Additionally, applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements:

• Hold an Associate Degree (or higher) OR
• Hold 60 higher education credit hours OR
• Hold a qualifying score on a state recognized paraprofessional exam
