Close Date: Overview The rate for this position is $18.90 per hour and is non-negotiable. This Statement of Work covers the need for student services to develop software and computer-based solutions in order to evaluate the impact of data processing on the uncertainty characterization of meteorological sensor measurements and instrument ranges located at NIWC Pacific.
The ORFALA project will develop a Kalman filter software suite capable of processing meteorological data in realtime to improve data integrity in laser beam quality metrics such as Power In Bucket. The available filtering methods will be adaptive, robust, and data-driven while benefitting from Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment best practices (version control, unit tests, and containerization). Accurate knowledge of the atmosphere is critical for High Energy Laser (HEL) applications (e.g., test events and threat mitigation). The ORFALA project provides a mechanism for reducing sensor-inherent errors such as missing data points, time-varying noise, and outliers. The goal is to provide the warfighter high quality data for an optimal decision strategy.
Responsibilities The student contractor shall provide analytical and technical support in the following areas, as specified under individual task orders, to the work sponsor:
- Assist with design and development of software for characterizing error of meteorological sensor data collected at NIWC Pacific.
- Assist with incorporation of error characterization algorithm into existing software frameworks developed by Code 55280 at NIWC Pacific.
- Assist with software development best practices (DRY, unit tests, version control, style guides, and naming conventions).
- Assist with model and simulation to validate and interpret algorithm performance with respect to uncertainty characterization.
