What does this role do at AHIMA?

The Director of Certification , under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs and Professional Credentials, is primarily responsible for managing and facilitating certification product development, maintenance, periodic evaluations of certifications, microcredentials including planning and management of test production and test publication activities essential for high-quality, sustainable, and scalable testing (i.e., high-stakes certification exams) and assessment programs (i.e., low-stakes alternative assessments) implemented by AHIMA and under the auspices of the Commission for Certification of Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM).

The Director of Certification ensures progress and accountability, manages resources effectively and efficiently, and provides direction to support for all organizational wide strategic goals as the relate to the certification function.

Who is our ideal candidate?

  • Partners with the Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs and Professional Credentials to develop strategic goals and objectives.
  • Manages the certification/recertification operations staff by coaching, evaluating, and training (completing performance reviews) to support initiatives and service to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Oversees escalations, investigations, and feedback and provides solutions and process improvements or corrective actions (if appropriate) to support gaps.
  • Leads and facilitates the coordination of exam/assessment development and launch schedules and activities, including:
    • Assembly exam/assessment forms to meet test specifications.
    • Facilitating exam/assessment review and approval workshops with SMEs and other internal staff.
    • Collaborates with psychometrician(s) and other Exam Program Managers with JTA design/deployment and analysis, exam specification panels, and standard setting workshops.
  • Interprets basic item and test statistics, and applies the concepts of reliability and validity, and collaborates with psychometrician(s) to analyze the performance of items and exams/assessments.
  • Leads, collaborates, and facilitates multiple groups of item authors, and manages item development efforts.
  • Leads and manages subject matter expert (SME) volunteers in the item development process (item writing, item editing/item review).
  • Advocates and implements policies and processes adhering to benchmarked practices and accreditation standards.
  • Develops, implements, and periodically evaluates quality assurance processes for maintaining exam/assessment quality and security

Requirements:

  • Master's degree preferred, 5-10 years of with certification operations and exam development for a major licensure and/or certification organization required.
  • Experience writing assessment items
  • Experience leading and facilitating item writing workshops, and all SME panels
  • Experience recruiting, vetting, training, and working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Excellent data organization and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and related mathematical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Strive to continuously build knowledge and skills.
  • Knowledge of project planning and management procedures, practices, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly, act as a team player and adapt to change and growth needs.
  • Proven ability to consistently demonstrate proactive, solution-oriented behaviors.
  • Leadership experience collaborating or managing internal and external stakeholders.
